A.    Job Title:  Residential Therapist

 The Residential Therapist is accountable to the Program Administrator for providing treatment and

 casework services to the clients of the program(s) to which he/she is assigned.  He/she is to provide  

 leadership and supervision of treatment planning, to lead group, individual and family therapy sessions, 

 and to work with other treatment personnel in establishing a therapeutic milieu within the program.

 

B.    Duties and Responsibilities:

 *   1.   Develop treatment plans for each client, working with the Activity Therapy Specialist, the

            Educational Coordinator, Employment Training Staff, Home Supervisor, the client’s Goal Worker,

            and the family.  Make appropriate clinical decisions about activities, groups, and events in which the 

            client should participate.

 *   2.   Provide individual, group, and family therapy for  case load.  If family therapy is provided through

            our SEMI office, the Residential Therapist will maintain regular communication with the Family

            Therapist and inform the treatment team.

 *   3.   Provide a wholistic therapeutic approach, with specific attention and support to including family in

            programming, engaging family in treatment, and empowering family to determine direction for their

            son/daughter and themselves.  When no “traditional” family is available as a resource, work to

            develop alternative support systems for the client.

 *   4.   Assist in the education, training, and evaluation of Youth Treatment staff, leading them to effectively

            implement treatment programs; supervise the case specific work of the client’s Goal Worker to

            review goals, progress, support systems and placement planning options.

 *   5.   Work closely with the Home Supervisor, providing clinical oversight, in the continued development, 

            monitoring, and staffing of a therapeutic milieu in the program.

 *   6.   Collaborate with the Program Administrator, Supervisor, and Assistant Supervisor to prepare team

            meeting agenda, as well as participate in leading the team meetings.

 *   7.   Collaborate with the Assistant Home Supervisor in identifying the therapeutic training needs of the

            treatment staff which are necessary to maintaining a therapeutic milieu and to meeting the specialized

            needs of clients in care.

 *   8.   Plan client’s visits away from the residential unit, including with whom, when, transportation 

            arrangements and length of visit. 

 *   9.   Coordinate/oversee client phone calls, clothing orders, mail received and other areas related to the

            personal needs of clients.

 * 10.   Supervise the work of the Case Liaison, when hours are allocated.

 * 11.   Develop treatment objectives and a quarterly case plan collaboratively with the client, their parents,

            and referring worker.  In addition, facilitate a quarterly Case Review Meeting, with all parties in

            attendance, to discuss the client’s treatment objectives and plan for the next quarter.

 * 12.   Develop Individual Program Modification plans as resident needs demand.

 * 13.   Track information, beginning at intake and admission, through treatment and into aftercare, which

             becomes part of the statistical data bank of Wedgwood.

 * 14.   Assure meeting of requirements of Managed Care Organizations related to case documentation, 

            authorization and reauthorization, etc.

 * 15.   At client discharge, coordinate aftercare plans to insure treatment continuity for the clients     

            psychiatric and therapeutic care.

 

 

    16.   Professional Growth

  *    a.  Keep informed of current residential treatment program developments and activities, including

             family treatment/involvement innovations.

  *    b.  Utilize educational opportunities and resources offered by the agency and through the profession 

             for continued development of skills and clinical expertise, (conferences, Inservices,

   Therapist Meetings, etc.)

  *   c.   Use the knowledge and skills of his/her supervisor to increase understanding of treatment

   programming and to further professional development.

  *   d.   Participate in research and evaluation projects as assigned; prepare presentations for colleagues

   (Therapist Meetings, conferences) and team members (team meetings and Inservice Training) on    

    selected relevant treatment topics.

  * 17.  On a rotating basis will provide weekend on-call availability for all residential programs.

  * 18.  Therapists working in one of the Open Programs will need to travel to the off campus program to 

   which they are assigned.

C.    Qualifications

 1.   Master's degree in Social Work, Clinical Psychology or another associated human service profession.

2.     Clinical experience working with adolescents and/or families preferred.

 3.   Prior experience working with an interdisciplinary team in a residential treatment setting preferred.

 4.   Required to provide proof of certification within applicant's defined area:  Certified Social Worker,

  Licensed Psychologist, Limited License Psychologist, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or

  Professional Counselor.

 5.   Subscription to the Statement of Faith of WEDGWOOD CHRISTIAN SERVICES and

  agreement with the goal, purpose and objectives of the agency.
