Counseling for Adults
As an adult coming in for counseling, we respect that there is a lot you already know and a lot you have already tried. Our therapists focus on understanding your goals and values and work together with you to help you create the life you want for yourself. Whether you need to navigate new life changes or address longstanding patterns in your behavior or relationships, we can offer support, guidance, and tools to help.
Counseling for Teens
Counseling with teens needs to be engaging and relevant, with a respect for the big questions, real struggles, and unique perspectives teens bring. Our therapists seek first to build trust and understanding with teens. From there, we strive for a balance of support and accountability, by helping teens identify the changes they want in life and learn new skills to make these changes a reality. We also offer support to parents as they work to create realistic expectations, give effective consequences, and develop a relationship of connection, respect, and fun with their teen.
Counseling for Children
For children, effective counseling involves getting to know each child and being able to understand the way a child thinks, acts, and sees the world. We use hands-on activities and creative play to help children learn to identify and cope with feelings, solve problems in new ways, and make positive adjustments to life changes. We also provide support to parents to help them learn to manage children’s intense emotions and challenging behaviors more effectively.
Family counseling can be helpful in addressing family changes, concerns affecting the family as a whole, and conflict and communication difficulties among family members. Family therapy sessions can also be incorporated into individual therapy work when appropriate.
Setting up an Initial Appointment
The initial session will be an assessment. This is an opportunity for your therapist to get to know you and learn about your needs and goals. Through this assessment process, your therapist will work with you to develop a plan for your treatment.
To schedule an initial counseling appointment, please call 616-942-7294. An intake specialist will gather some basic information and help arrange your first appointment.
