TEENS MODEL HEALTHY CHOICES

On Tuesday, March 30, 2010 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Comstock Park High Schoo,l teens will experience Pure Passion for Fashion (P2). This nationally known peer- to-peer program encourages the importance of positive decision making, self image and healthy relationships in a high-impact, multi-media event using fashion, drama, music and technology.

Instead of lectures about risky behavior, this dynamic and high-energy event takes a topic that many teens do not frequently explore and places it in a fashion show format that is designed by teens, for teens.

For five years, the P2 program has partnered with public schools and communities throughout the United States to bring this dynamic program to thousands of teenagers each year. West Michigan teens have enjoyed this program at local high schools including Union, Wyoming Park, Cedar Springs, Byron Center, Holland Christian and Godwin Heights.  P2 has also been showcased throughout the United States including Midland, Ishpeming and Auburn Hills in Michigan, Sunbury Ohio, Edwardsburg Illinois, and Macon Georgia.

This dynamic event has students making a positive impact in their community with:

  • Fashion, provided by area retailers and modeled by Comstock Park High School students. Fashions are selected by youth and support “The Code;” a compilation of school dress codes that promote modesty.
    • Retail sponsors include: Meijer, JcPenney, Debs Shops, Younkers, Fashion Bug and The Buckle.
    • Hair and Make up sponsor: Douglas J Aveda Institute
  • High tech video of students talking about the importance of healthy teen relationships, positive decision making and modest dress.
  • Music
  • Nationally acclaimed speaker David Mahan uses personal stories to empower and motivate young people to have a renewed self-concept and to either start making or to continue making positive choices.

P2 is open to the public and suitable for both guys and girls 7th grade and older.

P2 is sponsored by Wedgwood Christian Services in partnership with The Coalition on Adolescents Choices and Health (C.O.A.C.H.). Wedgwood has been helping hurting children and strengthening communities in West Michigan for 50 years. Wedgwood’s Positive Youth Development (PYD) programs provide prevention services to over 10,000 youth each year, preparing them to make healthy choices for themselves and their community. Wedgwood is a 501C (3) agency and is accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children, Inc.

C.O.A.C.H. encourages a broad-based public acceptance of abstinence from risky behaviors including sexual activity, alcohol, tobacco and other drug use among 9 to 17 year old youth. We strive to equip and empower youth and parents in order to promote healthy families.
