3 Reasons to Get Involved with an Organization in Your Community
“No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.” – Max Lucado
Whether it be though monetary gifts, donations of supplies, volunteering, or serving as ambassadors, organizations like Wedgwood rely on the support of active, engaged community members.
Emily Quellet is a member of Wedgwood’s NextGen Board and one of the incoming Board Co-Chairs. She joined us for a recent Coffee Break Conversation to share her Wedgwood story and perspective on community involvement.
Here are 3 reasons to get involved with an organization in your community
- It’s YOUR Community
“We are so connected to our community, and those who are a part of it,” says Quellet.
The health and well-being of others, and our community as a whole, impacts everyone. Investing in the community, providing supports for those who are struggling, and being engaged with those around you benefits everyone!
- Every Contribution Makes a Difference
Even the smallest acts of kindness add up to make a big difference.
“The small roles we can play in a person’s life is amazing to think about,” says Quellet. “I am reminded of the story of a beach full of star fish and a kid walking along throwing the starfish back one by one. Someone approaches him and ask why he bothers, because he will never get to them all. As the boy throws one starfish back in the water – he says it made a difference for this starfish.”
- Give Back
It’s important to recognize and appreciate those who have invested us, and to consider using the gifts and skills we have developed to invest in the next generation.
“For me it’s about sharing God’s love and the resiliency that I have learned through my experiences with people who may be going through tough circumstances,” said Quellet. “I want to connect with others and provide the support they need to not give up.”
Wedgwood’s NextGen Board is a group of young rising community leaders who are dedicated to advancing the mission of Wedgwood Christian Services by increasing awareness of the organization within their circles of influence, making a positive impact in the lives of Wedgwood clients, supporting agency events, and providing feedback on strategic planning for NextGen initiatives. If you are interested in an opportunity to get involved, submit an application to join Wedgwood’s NextGen Board at www.wedgwood.org/nextgen or see other ways to make a difference in the lives of children, teens, families, and adults that rely on Wedgwood at www.wedgwood.org/get-involved.
