Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT) is an evidenced based treatment for youth and adolescents (3-18yrs) and their caregivers who have been impacted by trauma. TFCBT research has shown this model to be effective in reducing symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Youth and adolescents ages 3-18 years of age who have been impacted by trauma and are experiencing related symptoms. This model can be done in an outpatient setting for those with Commercial insurance who still meet certain criteria. Individuals who reside in Kent County with active Medicaid are eligible to receive TFCBT services.
TFCBT has been shown to reduce symptoms of PTSD that case distress to the youth and family. TFBCT is a structured, step-by-step treatment model. Each component builds on one another to best help the youth and family process and manage trauma experiences and symptoms. TFCBT incorporates a caregiver component to help reinforce skills, address parenting strategies, increase understanding of trauma, and support positive relationships.
