Comprehensive Care: Activity Therapy

Wedgwood Christian Services has been committed to providing grace-filled care that works to restore wholeness in children, teens, families, and adults since 1960. Wedgwood’s comprehensive continuum of care includes programming and services that speak to the physical, social, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual well-being of those in our care. For this person-centered, holistic approach, Wedgwood’s Core Services – Residential, Community, and Education (funded by public contract sources) work in tandem with our 100% donor-funded Transforming Services: Recreation & Wellness, Employment Training, Chaplaincy, Prevention, and Manasseh Project Outreach.

Recreation & Wellness services help restore wholeness through activity therapy, experiential learning, leisure & coping skill development, and nutrition education.

Each of our specialized residential treatment homes have an Activity Therapist who plans a variety of therapeutic activities for the kids. These activities are more than just ways to keep kids occupied – they help kids understand important social skills, learn productive ways to cope and spend their time, develop healthy habits that are beneficial to their physical and mental health, and experience new things that help them grow and heal.

• Games, like charades, can provide kids a way to practice communication skills and teamwork.
• Making a pizza teaches vital kitchen skills, the importance of following directions, and helps kids develop a better understanding of how to properly nourish their bodies.
• Visiting new places builds confidence.
• Participating in Running Club is a great opportunity to learn perseverance and the benefits of exercise.
• Art projects provide a creative outlet, encourage new hobbies, and offer a healthy way to express emotions.
