Prayer for Peace
The recent events of tragedy and violence weigh heavily on our hearts. Please consider using this prayer as part of your daily devotions/moments of reflection.
PRAYER:
We pray for peace.
We pray for our city recovering from recent violence.
We pray for peaceful protests.
We pray for protection over all who desire change and want to actively and harmoniously take a stand.
We pray for justice, unity and social reform.
We pray for more listening, learning and dialogue.
We pray for the eradication of all forms of racism.
We pray for those traumatized by last week’s events.
We pray for George Floyd’s family as they grieve.
We pray for anyone who has faced oppression and violence in our nation due to the color of their skin.
We pray for violence-free policing and for law-abiding citizens.
We pray for procedural justice.
We pray for leaders to cultivate wisdom and sound judgment.
We pray for empathy, sympathy, compassion, care and respect towards our brothers and sisters.
We pray for peace.
As lovers of Christ, we believe that all lives are sacred, that all children are of one God and are equal subjects of our King, that our faith calls us to address and combat racism, and that hope of a racism-free Kingdom is our future reality in Jesus Christ.
Our prayer concludes with these words from an African American Hymn “We’ve Come this Far by Faith”:
We’ve come this far by faith
Leaning on the Lord
Trusting in His Holy Word
He never failed me yet
Oh’ can’t turn around
We’ve come this far by faith
