Developmental Disabilities

Who Is Eligible?

This program is for male and female clients, ages 6-17 years old. Youth served should be diagnosed with both of the following treatment needs:

  • Identified neurodevelopmental disorder such as autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disability, traumatic brain injury, genetic disorder, or complex developmental disorder.
  • Mental health disorder that significantly impairs self-care abilities, expressive/receptive language abilities, learning, mobility, and ability to make self-directed personal decisions.

Youth are evaluated on several criteria to determine appropriateness for placement and if they meet the minimum health and ability requirements.

Referrals are made through an agency that will provide funding for services, such as Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) or Juvenile Courts. In general, insurance does not pay for residential treatment at Wedgwood.

Program Specializations

  • Clinical model based on a cognitive-interpersonal approach
  • Emphasis on relationship and community
  • Incorporates concepts of Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA)
  • Heavy focus on self-control and life-skill development
  • Sensory Integration and Occupational Therapy (when eligible with funding)
  • Behavior Support Plan and prescribed ABA treatment can be provided when deemed appropriate and available via the county of origin and Community Mental Health referral.
